I take the Instant Pot into the pantry and return to the kitchen
with the plastic container of plant food.
I feed the plants.
I see the lid of the Instant Pot near the dish drainer and pick it up with the plant food container.
Then I notice a red silk scarf on the kitchen counter. I pick it up, and go to the pantry with everything in a shaky pile, returning the plant food container and the Instant Pot lid to their shelves.
(I have never had a pantry before. It is an L-shape behind the refrigerator. I love it and love messing with it. It is never neat, but it exudes love for food and the history of our eating and drinking. Things can stay there a long time.)
On the way back into the kitchen, I remember there are two glass jars and a catfood can ready for recycling.
I pick them up, take them out to the garage and put them in the recycling container.
On the way back through the laundry room, I notice a pair of pants that I can add to the clothing donation in the back seat of the car, so I go back to the garage.
Through the laundry room on the second return trip from the garage, I notice that the comforter the cat threw up on has stopped drying.
I put down the red scarf, rearrange the comforter with wet patches out and turn on the dryer.
I arrive back in the kitchen, but then loop back to the dryer again to pick up the scarf.
I take the scarf and some supplement bottles from the hall bookshelf to the bathroom and put down the bottles on the counter.
Then I walk into the closet and stand staring blankly about, wondering why I’m there.
On a good day I remember it’s the scarf
